It’s been about a year since COVID-19 emerged, and while vaccine rollouts are on the way, it looks like it’ll be a while before we return to normality.

I’m starting to forget the last time I was in a cinema, played squash, or had a meeting that involved more than 2 people. I have no recollection of the last time an unexpected visitor showed up at the office.

And with good reason. In the middle of a pandemic having someone show up unannounced, without even having completed a health screening questionnaire isn’t ideal. Especially if they need to touch an iPad to check in at the front desk.

Even when the vaccine is widely available, we’ll need to be careful about who goes in and out of the workplace (See our article on how people flow management ensures workplace safety under OSHA). So turning away unexpected visitors sounds like a good idea, in theory.

The reality is that not everything can be planned and suppliers, contractors, delivery people, customers, etc. are all busy, and juggling packed timetables. Sometimes they need to be able to drop by unannounced.

So to let you continue to run your business efficiently, but without compromising health and safety, we’ve developed Touchless check-in for unexpected visitors.

How does Touchless check-in for unexpected visitors work?

It’s easy.

Unexpected visitors simply scan a QR code on the Welcome screen with their phones and are taken through the check-in flow on their phones. Once complete they are ‘Checked-in’ and appear in the Visitor logbook.

That’s all there is to it. No need to turn away drops-ins by default.

What else did we ship in the last 30 days?

Lots of improvements to Remote registration including:

  • New options for question settings to empower admin users to create more flexible flows.
  • Separate questionnaires for employees and visitors. This minimizes friction by creating distinct check-in flows for employees (using questionnaires) and visitors (using Remote registration).
  • Remote registration now supports multiple agreements and reflects the options already available in the kiosk check-in flow. This means a smoother, more efficient process and lets admins configure multiple agreements.
